ptj reader the needle drop forwarded me this gem. jeff lynne looks like a muppet with an afro, and he seems he likes to reside in an early 90s computer game. this vid has three parts - the first is the video for 'lift me up', which involves lots of planes, trains, and a parachute. halfway through the video for 'every little thing' starts off with a castle and then gets really weird. the last part of the vid reveals that he has an english accent. what?! i thought this guy was from somewhere like tennessee. mindblower.
spiderwebs + pearls + black + serious silly robot club dancing = 'rock to the beat' by 101. there are only 5 words in the song: rock to the beat acid. but somehow her dancing makes up for the lack of lyrics - the spinning and the spiderweb spotlight and the pink nails are strangely hypnotic. i hope i don't start saying 'rock to the beat' in my sleep. actually i hope i do, that would be interesting.
meet joée. i'm not really sure how you pronounce his name with the double e and fancy accent and all, but my guess is jo-eh-ee. his video for 'feel it in the air' is smooth and sexy and has joée in a slinky satin shirt. how sensual. 'sunshine' features a leaner, tanner, longer-haired tropical loverman version of joée. i like when he lipsynchs really hard and gets air filling up his cheeks and looks like a chipmunk for .5 seconds. the last video is a bonus clip of joée live! i don't know where or when this was filmed but this is a world even i am shocked by. who are all these people in the audience?! why are there teenage boys reaching out to joée from the front row?! actually, forget the questions. i'm just gonna give into the power of his swaying little butt and shirt blowing up in the wind. i love you joée!
having just arrived back in ny from a trip to london im feeling a uk vibe, so why not do a post about billie? i first knew billie piper as the annoying girl with big teeth from doctor who, but apparently she had an amazing singing career as well. 'girlfriend' is a catchy tune that has a britney spears wannabe/sporty spice feel going for it. 'because we want to' features lots of glowing orbs and a dancing man made of liquid! and the top of the pops performance of 'day and night' has some crazy good dance moves. and by crazy good i mean horrible. my favorite move is when they duck down and move back and forth. p.s. i added b4-4 'get down' to my all-time faves because i realized it is too amazing to let disappear into archives.
there is something very tropical sparkly about the video for 'it's gonna be a lovely day' by the s.o.u.l.s.y.s.t.e.m. loving the toned down chola makeup and florals. actually, maybe i'll hawaiian prints and soft chola makeup my spring 2010 look. yes! though i don't think i'll include the supalong nails that the girl in this vid is rockin. also, this video made me want to buy one of those moving light up pictures of tropical fish or a waterfall or something.
just when i think i've seen the most horrible musical performance in the universe somehow another one emerges. my friend ash introduced me to roye'l, and yes his music is exactly what you would expect from someone named roye'l. 'in my world' showcases his wobbly high voice. and loving the two dangly earrings and different colored kneepads. those dance interludes are killer. roye'l's wardrobe is a tad more formal in 'i found a girl'. and he reveals that his music is 'fresh alternative' in the interview sesh. i like when he says, 'i found a girl, her name is j'coco.' roye'l + j'coco 4ever.
bangs confuses me. he's from africa but his accent sounds russian. he keeps rolling his r's. and he fo sho don't have any bangs. maybe he meant for his name to be bangin'. whatevs. his super high budget music video 'take u to da movies' is super highly entertaining. just listen to the lyrics and let the music flow into your consciousness......
pumpthatjam reader 23 wolves shared this amazing musical group with me. B4-4 gives me yet another reason to love boybands. spiky frosted hair + tweezed eyebrows + puka shell necklaces + twin brothers that look like muscular turtles + another guy = B4-4. 'get down' has been stuck in my head for dayzzzz. such a nasty song but such a sweet beat. dirtiest line in the song is 'gonna make you come tonight....over to my house.' i can't believe that song is real. 'go-go' starts off with a strange suspenseful toothbrushing scene and then turns into a blue spiky-haired silver pants y2k dancefest. after b4-4 the twins formed a more serious group called ryandan. i'm not sure which group name is worse...
bill nye the science guy ruled in elementary school. my fave part was always the mini music videos at the end of each episode that took a popular song and redid it to go with the science theme. i selected three of many many amazing vids - i vividly remember watching the 'let's talk about stress' video and knowing that salt n pepa's real song was too grown up for me to listen to. 'come on use your brain' uses quad city djs hit 'c'mon n'ride it (the train)'. and 'lavaflows' is a dead on parody of tlc's 'waterfalls' - love that they did the hairstyles for each girl.
