HAPPY INDEPEN-DANCE DAY

i tried to pick one theme for an independence day post but i couldnt, so i just included a bunch of random clips relating to the 4th of july.  the commercial for on time fashions is my fave, i def wanna shop there! the models are an australian band with a somewhat mad max-ian video. izabela trojanowska's performance of 'independance day' feels like it was beamed from a stage on a planetary unit far far away. and i had to include the disney parade from 1988 because really, what is the 4th of july without a corny parade?

DOUBLE YOUR ITALO

thanks to a PUMP THAT JAM reader comment for reminding me of italo supergroup the twins! everyone knows that twins take the potential starpower of one person and more than double it!  especially when one twin wears a maroon sweater and gray pants and the other twin wears a gray sweater and maroon pants, like in the 'face to face, heart to heart' video. the monochromatic colored suits with massive shoulder pads in the 'ballet dancer' performance video remind me of french group debut de soiree.  at 2:02 there's a keyboard jam with both the twins that sounds a bit off-key..... but who can tell with those gorgeous suits distracting the viewer from the actual music? and the video for 'not the loving kind' has some equally distracting girls in spandex bodysuits doing synchronized aerobic stretching - on a planet in outer space. totally normal.

BUCKS FIZZ

bucks fizz was formed to compete in and won the 1981 eurovision song contest. they are like the english abba, with crazy costumes and catchy songs to match.  'land of make believe' is a magical journey to another land where everyone wears bedazzled, fringed outfits with pouffy hair. i want to go to that land!  'land in a world gone mad' is actually a song i really like, and the video makes me want to wear a lot of pink.  'london town' makes munchkin singing voices cool.  and i included a bonus commercial for sharp where their harmonizing, singing faces float in blackness.
